DAVIS CUP 2005

                                  DAVIS CUP 2005 UPDATE I

                                                  15th July 2005

With only the doubles to go, T&T has won the tie against the USVI. 

 Results

Richard Brown beat Christian Nelthropp 6 0, 6 2,

Shane Stone beat Eugene Highfield 6 4, 7 5. 

Shane and Troy will play the doubles this afternoon. 

 

In the other match, Barbados won their tie against Bermuda 2-0, with the doubles not yet played.   Costa Rica, who has the day off today will face  T&T tomorrow, while Bermuda will face Barbados 

Yesterday, Barbados beat Costa Rica  2-1, while Bermuda also won their tie against USVI 2-1. Trinidad and Tobago remains the only unbeaten team in the tournament after 2 rounds of matches.

DAVIS CUP 2005 UPDATE

Trinidad andTobago won the tie against Barbados after the 2 singles matches were played. 

Playing in the first match in the #2 position,

Richard Brown defeated Russel Mosely 6 1,6 2.  

Playing in the #1 spot 

Shane Stone defeated Wkwesi Williams 6 1 ,6 1. 

The Doubles will be played this afternoon.  


 

In the other tie between the host Costa Rica and Bermuda, they are locked at one all after the singles.  USVI is on a bye.

 It is currently raining here and this may delay the start of the doubles.   The courts do not have lights, so they may be forced to use the indoor courts if the rains persist.
I will provide an update after the doubles.

DAVIS CUP 2005  UPDATE

 

The Draw was made today Tuesday.  Trinidad and Tobago’s opening match is against Barbados.

The team for that match is:

Shane  Stone plays the # 1 position,

Richard Brown #2 and

Shane and Troy  Stone the doubles.

There will be and opening ceremony at 9:00 am with play starting at 9:15. 

The other matches on tomorrow will be

Costa Rica vs Bermuda,

The USVI has the bye.

T& T schedule for the tournament is:  

                      Thursday   14th - bye
                      Friday       15th -   USVI
                      Saturday  16th -   Cost Rica
                      Sunday     17th -   Bermuda

There was some excitement in the T&T camp when Shane s luggage went to Honduras.  (Someone forget to tell the airline the Davis Cup is played in dirfferent country every year, in 2004 it was in Honduras).  However, we got it this morning and he was able to practice with the team this afternoon.

Davis Cup 2005 participation.

The Trinidad and Tobago Davis Cup  team left Trinidad on Monday 11th July for Costa Rica. The tournament begins on Wednesday 13th July and runs to  Sunday 17th July at the Costa Rica Tennis Club, and the draw will take place Tuesday 12th July at the same venue.

The Davis Cup Team comprising of:

Ashton Wharwood - Manager

Richard Ferdinand - Captain

1 Shane Stone

2 Richard Brown

3 Troy Stone (Doubles)

4 Brent Chin

Jonathan Gomez who was previously selected as the No. 2 player had to withdraw because of an injured hand, and Brent Chin replaced him

DAVIS CUP 2004

The draw was made today Tue 3rd. Feb. 2004 and is as follows:

Group 1             Group 2

Honduras          Netherlands Antilles
Colombia           El Salvador
Panama              US Virgin Islands
Bolivia                Trinidad & Tobago


Colombia and Antilles were demoted from Group II last year, while Virgin Islands and Panama were promoted from Group IV

Competition starts tomorrow Wed 4th. Feb 2004 with an Opening Ceremony and the start of matches.

The schedule for tomorrow Wed 4th. Feb. 2004 will be announced later and I will give an update as it comes to hand.

  • The Davis Cup team for 2004 has been decided through the Trials, they are: 
  •             Richard Brown - Based in the US attends Northwood       University, Florida
  •             Dexter Mahase
  •             Jonathan Gomez
  •             Jamille Danclair
 
An alternate to the team will be selected today, who will be on standby, in the event any of the above cannot make to the tournament in February 2004.
 
 
  • The Americian Zone Group III Tournament is in Honduras from February 2 - 8, 2004

 

Ivor Grazette and the Stone brothers were invited to trials but declined for various reasons.

    The Davis Cup tie between Trinidad & Tobago and Uruguay would be held at the Jean Pierre Complex from 8th - 10th February, 2002. Our team consist of

    We had trials at the Tacarigua Tennis Centre from the 27th- 29th December, 2001 and Dexter Mahase and Kirk John-Williams emerged the winner and runner-up. So they are our two reserves.
